Proposed Classes for 2024-2025

HOPE2 Tentative 2024-2025 Class Offerings

Gina Rivers:

Show and Tell Book Club; K-6

“What Makes a Story Interesting” Exploring genres of literature.  Monthly, Tuesday afternoon

 

Debi Roberts:

Drama; 12 years and above.  Fall Semester. Summer drama camp requirement. Tuesday 1-4pm



Speech; 12 and above.  Spring Semester.

Creative writing; 12 and above. Spring Semester

Potential for Student Congress depending on interest, etc.

 

Shahar Freeman:

IEW; Grades 3-8.  Prefers to teach in her home.

Geared to new beginners but also open to those who have done IEW before.  Both fall and spring.

Text: Structure and Style for the Classroom Year 1, Level A

 

Melodie Miller:

Grammar basics and creative writing using IEW principles for sentence building. 

Some reading skills are necessary, but children do not need to be fully literate to participate or benefit.  Fall semester. Weekly.

 

Music theory basics for elementary and middle school.

Students will learn through games and drills how to identify the musical staff and notes on the staff, types of musical notes and other basics such as time signature, clefts, etc.  We will also talk about a different composer each week.  Spring semester. Weekly.

 

Elementary and middle school Bible.  Both fall and spring. Weekly.

The Biggest Story

 

Dan Dunn:

Chemistry.  High School.  Fall and Spring.

Apologia Exploring Creation with Chemistry. Tuesday and Thursday 4-5:30pm

 

Sara Dunn:

Apologia American Literature.  High school. Weekly. Thursday afternoons.

 

Bonnie Eakins:

Personal finance. Weekly.

 


Melissa Redmond:

Supervised but somewhat unstructured art opportunities for elementary students during middle school and high school classes.  There will be a supply fee.


Katrina Kurth:

Crochet. Biweekly. Thursday after noon. Needs 1 adult helper - preferably a right handed person who knows how to crochet.

 

Kim Reasonover:

This is still in the works – art appreciation and communication/etiquette.


Sarah Miller:

Elementary Science using Magic School bus kits.  Will need 2 adult helpers to move forward. Thursday afternoons. Spring.

 

Leah Barcus:

High school film class with the goal of entering the film into a Christian film festival in December.  Minimum of 10 students with strong commitment.  Will need 2 adult helpers (potentially already has 1.) Fall.


Kim Childress:

Evening math tutor at the library. Days and times TBD.
